Saturday 4th April 2009 EN.A.D. 1 Iraklis 2 The last game of the season at home in Giolou Stadium was a bit of an anti climax with EN.A.D. losing 2-1 to Iraklis. After going into the lead with a goal from Marios Kolountis in the 18th minute, his first goal of the season .EN.A.D. conceded two goals in the 34thand 37th minutes. The scores remained the same at the final whistle bringing the curtain down on a very successful season. The final statistics were Played 26 Won 15 Drawn 3 Lost 8 Goals For 53 Against 34 Points 48.The top three goal scorers were Tommi Panagi 14 Christos Tofiras 13 Marinos Georgiou 13. Another interesting statistic shows that a large proportion of EN.A.D. goals were scored in the last 20 minutes of each half 29 with 8 goals conceded in the first five minutes and 15 goals conceded in the last 15 minutes of each half. Celebrations Immediately after the match the the 4th Division Runners Up Trophy was presented by Lakis Hadjikyriacos of the Cyprus football association and then the celebrations began Champagne and a barbeque for the players, club officials and supporters. The Cyprus people and particularly in our beautiful part of Cyprus, the Polis and Latchi area, are very passionate about their football which came through each week at the matches and in this celebration. You can see photographs here taken after the final whistle including President Marios Avraam with the cup. This reminded me of the immortal words of the late great Liverpool FC Manager Bill Shankly who once said “Some people think that football is a matter of life and death. I don’t like that attitude. I can assure them it is much more serious than that” The new season 2009/2010 in the Cyprus Third Division In a recent interview with club President Marios Avraam almost one year since our first meeting,Marios set out the objectives for the new season ahead. He stated that it is most important for the team to consolidate its position in the Third Division in the challenging season ahead in our marvellous new stadium in Polis. It is also important to increase the clubs supporter base now that the football club has come home to its very own ground. To this end the club is issuing Season Tickets for 2009/2010 available now priced at only €40 each which represents tremendous value in these financially challenging times.Marios would like to see supporters coming from the whole area and they can expect a warm welcome from the club and its council members. In order to meet the club’s objectives the President and Council of EN.A.D. have appointed a new and very experienced coach Andreas Stefanou a former player with APOP of the Cyprus First Division (Classic 10) and holder of a UEFA Class A Coaching Diploma. He also works in the academies of Paphos,Peyia and Atromitos and therefore has a wealth of knowledge regarding young players in the area. His assistant coach Costas Socratous is a former player of EN.A.D. who played for the club for many years. He coached EN.A.D. for half a season two years ago and is very well experienced in the training of professional players. To date EN.A.D. have 13 players appointed to the squad made up of experienced and younger players as follows:- Players Retained:- Club captain Evagoras Evrididou an accomplished Centre Back probably one of our most consistent players last season Pambous Charalambous ( known as Drousias to the fans)an exciting left back with good pace and crossing ability. Antonis Antoniou a very quick left side player capable of opening up defences on the break. Dionosis Karra Yannis a very quick and reliable right back with good defending qualities. Chrastakis Charalampos for me one of the best creative mid field players in the 4th Division last season. He has ability to always have time on the ball to make defence splitting passes. Ivaylo Petkov a robust centre forward from Bulgaria we probably did not see the best of what he has to offer last time around but with the right encouragement can be a dangerous attacking player. Andreas Iakovou In my opinion the most improved player in our squad last season. He began the season up front without much success and then was moved to Centre back where he was outstanding .A big strong tall player very good in the air. New players into the squad Alexi A mid field player from Bulgaria has had a previous successful spell with the club two years ago. Daniel Zachariev from Bulgaria .This player was spotted on our travels to Dafni last season and is pleased to join us. He is a very exciting attacking right mid field player with lots of pace. George lasiides A big strong Centre back Michalis Pogiannos A Centre mid field player. Pambos Athanasiou Right back Andros Christostomou Centre Mid Field player At the club we are looking forward to the new season and playing in the Cyprus Third Division in our new stadium in Polis. We will keep you posted of developments at the club during the summer including any pre season friendlies . There will be more information about the squad and players in future editions particularly when training starts in July.
