Welcome to the June issue of the Polis and Latchi Magazine.

As I am writing this, we are having major thunder storms! Yes, thunder storms in May!! But as many of you know, we do/did need the storm to clear the air ready for summer. It is a weird sensation, thinking of something to write about June, a summer month, when it is raining outside and I have a jumper on! Don’t forget the Market dates for June are the 6th and the 20th, 9am till 2:30pm. And don’t forget the Latchi Watersports Supported Blood drive on the 10th June from 10am at the Watersports Centre.

Please give Tom a call on 26322095 and book up to give some blood. It is desperately needed. In this Month’s magazine we have: We have photos showing the progress of the construction works in Latchi. Please turn to page 2 for that. We have the news on EN.A.D F.C, our very own local team, and how they are doing this season, turn to page 6 for that! We have a delightful article from Sheila Hawkins on page 4 . We have an article from Polis Animal Rescue, please turn to page for that.

June is the beginning of the turtle egg laying season, please turn to page 12 for more information. June also the beginning of the “Wedding season”, Polis Town Hall is an ideal location for a wedding. All the information is available on page 8 . We also have our character of the month, horoscopes, recipe of the month, monthly crossword and not forgetting our monthly competition where you can win a voucher for pool equipment to the value of €73 courtesy of Shipshape Polis. Here are a few things you may not have known about June: June is the sixth month of the year in the Gregorian calendar, with a length of 30 days.

The month is named after the Roman goddess, June is known for the large number of marriages that occur over the course of the month. June is named after Juno, wife of Jupiter, and was the goddess of marriage and a married couple's household, so some consider it good luck to be married in this month. Juno is the equivalent to the Greek goddess Hera. The traditional June birthstone is the pearl, the birth flower is the rose, or the honeysuckle, as roses and honeysuckles bloom throughout the month. June is also sometimes called the "Rose month."
