Open Air market

Saturday 5th April saw the first day of the new in the Polis area.

This market was the idea of Mr. Phil Neville as a way to attracted both locals and tourist to our area. For those that don’t know, the market is located on the Main B7 Paphos- Polis road just outside the village of Goudi. The plan is to hold the market at least twice a month but we will keep you informed.

The official name for the Market is the Open Air Goudi Market and you can contact us on 26322579 or email us on: openairgoudimarket@polisandlatchi.com The market had over 25 stalls with goods ranging from pet supplies to jewellery to clothes and house hold items.

The day started early for Phil as he had to be there at 7:30am in order to let the stall holders set up but I eventually arrived at 8:00, coffee in hand! At 8:30 the first few potential customers came down to have a look and see what bargains could be found. There was a constant stream of customers during the day even when the temperature soared around 12 noon. I hadn’t planned on the temperatures being as high as they were so unfortunately, sun cream was forgotten!

I still have lovely red arms whilst writing this! The day seemed to run smooth with the only problem being the generator for the bouncy castle running out of petrol!! I don’t think the donkeys were bored! Every time I turned around, there was a different child having a donkey ride. And the two lovely girls doing face-painting were busy most of the day, with a few older “kids” (you know who you are!!) having something painted on them. These same older “kids” hi-jacked the bouncy castle once or twice! Rock fm arrived at around 10:00 am to set up. Tony Newel was playing from 11 until 1pm.

Tony played a great selection of music to get us all in the summer mood. Pafian Paul arrived just before 1pm to start his set and he had brought some Rock FM t-shirts with him and organized a quiz in order to give them away. I’m still sulking I didn’t know any of the answers!! David Muldoon, Local boy and more importantly winner of the Paphos X Factor, kindly sang for us. David sang three songs then had a break and sang another two later on. He defiantly has a group of supporters as cheers and whistles could be heard when he finished.

Keep an eye on this guy; I think he is defiantly going to be a big name in the music business! When i spoke to most of the stall holders, it was positive feedback that I received. Many of the stall holders were pleasantly surprised at the amount of customers that came and many informed me of their interest at attending the next market. Below is an email we received a few days after the market.
