February brought much welcomed heavy rain to Cyprus and although walking can be difficult when tracks are literally torrenting with water, the aftermath of the rains is the countryside springing to life.

In the past few weeks, the Wheelie walking group has meandered past fields and hedgerows ablaze with many different kinds of wild flowers including the many beautiful orchids to be found on the island.

Some of these orchids are only a few cm high so spotting them demands an eagle eye and a slower pace. By the time you read this article, some of the flowers you see in these pictures will have been and gone but there are still many to be found.

So get out in the spring air in April and look closely on the sides of tracks for the colorful array of flowers to be found. March and April are truly the best months for walking and cycling in Cyprus so make the most of it.
