If you are not aware of the problem in Cyprus with the poison Lannate and you are a dog lover, then please read on for some important information. Let me tell you about David Seaman, 35, from “Temper Temper Dog Training” who relocated from London to Cyprus last year after his mother Pauline, (who is already resident here), told him about our dreadful animal-poisoning problems. Luckily for us, David is a dog anti-poison training expert and due to there being little call for this in London, he didn’t need much persuading to come and help all the dog-lovers in Cyprus. Having worked almost all his life with animals, David cares passionately about every one of them - and there isn’t an animal that doesn’t adore him! He is highly respected in his field and has assisted vets from the RSPCA and The Metropolitan Police, handling the dogs they were dealing with so they didn’t get bitten. This was no mean feat when you think these animals were often seized under The Dangerous Dogs Act and could be rottweilers and pit bulls. David also had a very interesting period working at London Zoo and has a myriad of very funny tales to tell! His involvement training dogs who have behavioural problems, such as continual barking, pulling when walking with a lead, aggressiveness and general disobedience is highly skilled and as David says “extremely rewarding”. Sadly, David has also been involved with animals that have been severely physically and mentally abused and has experienced some dreadful circumstances. The upside has been when he has nursed them back to good health and had the joy of re-homing them. What are David’s views on the poison Lannate? He firmly believes it should not be available in Cyprus as it is lethal – and it’s probably only a matter of time before a child becomes a victim – if one hasn’t already. For those of you who aren’t aware, Lannate, often available “under the counter”, is used primarily to kill rats. The bait is usually meat, which is injected with this dangerous substance. Unfortunately, animals other than rats – usually dogs - often take the bait and then die in a terribly painful fashion. The death is agonising and absolutely heartbreaking to watch as rarely are you able to get to a vet in time. It’s too awful to imagine how you would feel if it was your family pet and you were simply helpless to do anything. But, despite all this depressing information, there is a solution – and even a happy ending! David’s anti-poison training can save your dog’s life. His skill here is absolutely incredible – you have to see it to believe it – and as he designed this unique training, he is the only person in Cyprus able to carry it out. If like most dog-lovers, your dog is not just a pet, it’s a family member and loved in exactly the same way - then this article may have been of interest to you. David can usually teach your dog not to touch meat that is poisoned in only 1 or 2 sessions – which I’m sure you will agree, is a very small price to pay for peace of mind. How is the training done – that’s David’s secret!
